In 2016, the United States Mint issued the famous designs from its 1916 overhaul of American coinage for the 100th anniversary of the debut of those designs. Each one was reimagined on a 24-karat gold coin with a commemorative weight based on the face value of the original coin.

The obverse of each 2016 Mercury Dime features Adolph A. Weinmans Winged Liberty design. Liberty is facing left, with a winged cap upon her head. It also includes Weinmans initials the A tucked under the W behind Libertys neck, below and to the left of the Y in Liberty.
The reverse of each 2016 Mercury Dime includes a Roman Fasces wrapped up by a branch of olive leaves, also an Adolph A. Weinman design. These two images combine to represent Americas military readiness as well as her resolve for peace. Included is a W mint mark for the West Point Mint and a description of the coins composition and weight.
The “Mercury” dime may very well be the most beautiful coin ever produced by the United States Mint. It is truly remarkable that a coin this small could have such an intricate and aesthetically pleasing design. To celebrate the 100th anniversary of this classic coin, the U.S. Mint West Point facility struck only 125,000 of these special commemorative ‘dime’ each struck on one-tenth ounce of gold.
